Dr. Richard Raymond
Background and Training
I am a New York City-based clinical psychologist providing mental health services to adults residing in New York, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. In addition to specializing in the treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders, I have significant experience treating mood disorders (e.g. depression) and trauma-based disorders (e.g. PTSD). I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), although I also draw from my extensive training in mindfulness techniques and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). At the outset of therapy, we will work together to determine the right approaches for your needs, adapting over time as needed to help you reach your goals.
I started my clinical training in CBT at the Behavior Therapy Center of Greater Washington under the supervision of Dr. Charles Mansueto (Chair of OCD Mid-Atlantic), Dr. David Keuler (author of Healing from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and Ruth Golomb LCPC (author of numerous books including The Hair Pulling Habit and You: How to Solve the Trichotillomania Puzzle). I completed my predoctoral internship at the Los Angeles Veterans Affairs hospital system and my postdoctoral fellowship at the Capital Institute for Cognitive Therapy (CICT), where I continued to hone my skills as a CBT Therapist under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Holland (Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and co-author of Treatment Plans and Interventions for Depression and Anxiety Disorders), Dr. John Dennis, and Dr. Jessica Nemeth. I subsequently worked as a staff psychologist at both CICT and the Behavior Therapy Center.
In 2021, I returned to New York City, and in 2022, I opened Raymond Psychological Services, allowing me to provide services locally in New York while continuing to remotely serve those in the DC area.
